Sexual Objects for a Good Cause?

For years, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has had the advertisement campaign “I’d rather go naked than wear fur” featuring models and celebrities baring it all for the proper treatment of animals. Does using women as sexual objects for a good cause make it okay? Who is PETA trying to direct these advertisements at and do you believe it’s effective? Should PETA change anything about this advertisement campaign?

Other things to think about while viewing PETA’s advertisements featuring nude women: Does this change your opinion on PETA or the celebrity in subject? Is there another way to get their point across than featuring women naked? Why do you think PETA decided to take this approach?

  1. I think its a double edge sword. While wearing fur is offensive to some, featuring women this way is just as offensive.

  2. I think PETA is failing honestly. If they have to result to using these kinds of advertisements, Theyre using it as a last resort because they are getting lack of support. Peta probably believes that these kind of advertisements will draw more people to change their minds...just because they have sex appeal. I just think it fails epically

  3. I agree with Amanda, they may be losing some credibility when their campaigns seem to be getting more and more sexual. Its attention getting but at what cost.

  4. It is true that the media has limited the definition and representation of female beauty to just female goodies and nothing else. Sex sells! This is because it is a natural tendancy which attracts most people in their youthful age.

Since the youth is the main target group for these unpleasant and objectifying advertisements, the children must be brought up in a way to be well aware of their self image. The problem comes about when children are not confident in themselves and tend to be ignorant about beauty and its true meaning.

Beauty is what you say it is. It is your opinoin of what appeals to you. So what then is beauty? Everthing!

When young females and males are not enlightened about the disturbing and untrue imagery and stereotypes attached to females in our society they easily get entwined in media's fallicies about the representation of the ideal female.
